MOSPORT OPEN WHEEL MODIFIED RULES 2006 1. Car may be any make or model with any body style. Body should have minimum 4" ground clearance. Cars must have stock appearing roof (minimum 9 sq. ft.) with pillars which cover the roll cage and are attached to the windshield frames. Cars must have a hood which covers the motor and rad. Front wheels must be open body style. Rear wheels must not stick out past nerf bars or scrub rails. Any flares must not be out past tires. Race cars participating in racing events must be presentable appearance at all times. Cars that are considered improperly prepared may be rejected by the technical committee at any event. Race cars must be complete at the beginning of each event. Cars must be equipped with a hookup point front and rear to pick the car up. All cars must be neatly and brightly painted. Numbers must be legible and must be no less than 14 inches high and 2 inches wide. No trick numbers. Numbers must be on front for line up purposes. 1A. No side board wings. 1B. Maximum height of spoiler (including spoiler sides and supports) from ground to top of spoiler is 48". Spoiler sides or supports may extend forward only to the rear of the drivers window opening. Supports may extend from the top of spoiler forward and taper down to the rear quarter panel. You must be able to see over or through rear spoiler (lexan). 1C. If roof wing is used it must be fastened to roll cage and approved by Tech. 2. Any cars considered unsafe will be rejected and not allowed on the track.2A. Left side window opening must be a minimum of 13 inches high and 24 inches long. 3.
WEIGHT: 2700 lbs. with driver after race completion
- Ford & Chev. If rack & pinion is used an extra 50 lb. weight must be mounted in front of or on front of front cross member. If tube clip is used an additional 20 lbs. must be fastened to each frame rail no further back than the rear of the engine block or one 40 lb. weight must be fastened to the right frame rail no further back than the rear of the engine block. (Passenger side.) All additional weights must be painted white and identified with car number. 3A. Maximum left side weight 60%. 4. BATTERY Must be anchored securely and outside the drivers compartment. 5. BRAKES: All four wheels must have working brakes. Four wheel discs brakes allowed. Dual master cylinder with balance bar allowed. No aluminum brake parts. Howe caliper mounts allowed for rear brakes only. Aluminum front hubs are not allowed. Aluminum master cylinders, and aluminum brake hats are allowed. 6. BUMPERS: Front bumper may be past frame only 2 inches on each side. Front and rear bumpers must be a minimum of 13 inches and a maximum of 17 inches from the ground to centre of bumper. Front bumper must be double bumper style. Rear bumper must be supported at both ends with a minimum of 1 1/4" .095 tube. All sharp edges must be rounded off. Double side scrub rails are highly recommended. They should be close together at the front and widen to approx. 12 inches at the back. All bumpers and side rails must have rounded corners. 7.
Racing shocks allowed; only 1 per wheel. Only spec shocks
are allowed. (e.g. Pro or 8.
DISTRIBUTOR: Stock or stock replacement single point distributor
or electronic ignition only. 12 Volt 9. DRIVE LINE: Must have steel 360 degree retaining hoops minimum 1/4 inch by 2 inch positioned at the front and rear of the drive shaft within 6 inches of each U-joint. No chains. No aluminum drive shaft. Drive shaft must be steel and painted white. 10. FUEL: No alcohol, nitrous or oxygen enhancing fuels or additives. 11. FUEL PUMP: Stock type mechanical pump only. No electric pumps. 12. FIRE CONTROL: Cars must have an approved steel fire extinguisher mounted in an approved steel bracket and within easy reach of the driver when his seat and shoulder belts are fastened. (TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE DRIVER.) Fire extinguisher must be validated to the current year. (NO LATER THAN MAY 1 st of the current year and must be attached to the extinguisher.) For on board fire systems the gauges must be readable by the Tech. 13. FUEL CELL: MANDATORY - Must be securely mounted in trunk compartment between the frame rails and no lower than rear axle tubes. Neoprene or steel gas line must be securely fastened under the floor. No plastic or glass fuel filters. No copper lines. Fuel cell must have rear hoop bar for protection. Fuel cell must be behind rear axle. Vent line must have a check valve. If No vent line, Cap must have a Check Valve. There must be a fuel shut-off valve in working order and mounted on the parcel shelf, accessible from either side of the car by safety people. Valve must be marked On and Off. 14. IGNITION: Car must be self starting and have an ignition kill switch. Kill switch must be painted red. 15. TRANSMISSIONS: Stock type AUTOMATIC transmissions only. No after market planetaries. All gears must be working. Cooler is highly recommended. Transmission cooler can not be mounted inside driver’s compartment. Torque converter must be a minimum of 12 inch diameter and functional with no modifications. No racing torque converters. There will be a $100.00 claim and exchange on all torque converter. The track reserves the right to exchange torque converters with any car at any time. 16. ROLL BARS: Steel roll bars of minimum 1 3/4 inch outside diameter and .095 inch wall thickness are compulsory. Aluminum and other soft metals are not allowed. Front and rear roll bars must be connected at top and bottom of both sides at seat height. Side bars are compulsory and driver’s side must extend into panels (minimum of 4 on left, and 3 on right). All joints must have gussets of not less than .125 inch thickness. No pipe fillings allowed. Roll bars in driver’s area must be padded and taped with foam rubber. Left leg protection bar must be installed between roll cage and left front frame rail. Main frame rail must have a minimum perimeter of 10 inches by .095 inch wall thickness extending from clip to rear suspension. Drivers side frame must be built out to the side of the car. Roll bars must be mounted on top of the frame. Right side frame may be no closer to the centre of the car than the inside edge of the front stub used. Right side roll cage must go straight up to window level before it may angle in towards the drivers area. Window level is considered to be 15 inches above top of frame on new cars built. 17. SAFETY BELTS AND HARNESS: A quick release belt of no less than 3 inch width and 2 inch shoulder harness is mandatory. Belts must be securely fastened to frame or roll cage with a minimum of 3/8: grade 8 bolts. Crotch belt is mandatory. 18. SAFETY HELMET: An approved racing safety helmet and COMPLETE driver’s racing suit must be worn in all practice and race events and until car is parked in pit area. A Snell approved helmet is mandatory. See General Rules. 19. SEAT: Aluminum racing seats are mandatory. Minimum thickness .125 or 1/8". Seat must be bolted to the frame with large plate washers or flat bar. Seat must be positioned completely to the left of the centre line of the car. Head rest is mandatory. See diagram #2. 20. RAD: Any rad may be used. Electric fans allowed. If using stock fan, it should be shrouded for protection. A liquid overflow can mounted ahead of the firewall is compulsory. No ANTI-FREEZE. Aluminum rads are allowed. 21. ENGINE: Must be centered in frame. (Max 1 inch left of centre) and be a minimum of 72 inches from centre of rear end to flywheel face.
Chev. 350 small block
only Engine must retain factory stock specs. for bore, stroke and rod length of engine used. Stock crank only. Polished rods allowed. Stock length rods or stock length after market rods weighing 580 grams or more are allowed. Floating wrist pins are allowed. Max. overbore is .060 inch. No dry sump oil systems. Fluidamprs are allowed. Pistons must be flat topped or dished only. No re-worked pistons. All engines must have a hydraulic cam and hydraulic lifters. No roller cams or lifters. Roller rockers and stud girdles are allowed. (Shaft rocker are allowed on Chrysler products only.) Maximum
lift at the valve is: Compression ratio on all makes must be 9.5 or lower. However due to measure variations with the equipment; a whistle of 9.9 - 1 will be deemed legal. But if upon a tear down the engine exceeds 9.5 - l comp. Ratio based on EXACT MEASUREMENTS the engine will be declared illegal. Rocker arms must be stock ratio to engine manufacturer. Screw in studs or pinning is allowed. Rocker locks are allowed. Guide plates are allowed. No angle milling of head. Valve springs must be stock diameter. No porting, polishing or matching of head to intake or exhaust. Chev. Must use 882 heads only. Ford and Chev. Max. valve size is 1.94 inch intake, 1.60 inch exhaust. Dodge max. valve size 1.88 intake, 1.63 exhaust. Chrysler “308", Magnum or “W” series heads are not allowed. All Dodge & Ford heads must be approved by Tech, Call for approval. INTAKE: Edelbrock Performer intake. G.M. #2101, Chry. #2176, Ford #2665, 2750 or 2181. No reworking of intake. No old style 2101 intakes. Max. 1 inch thick. Spacer plate. Carburetor holes in spacer must be located in centre of intake holes. No venturies in or below spacer plate. No turtles, no polishing, no porting. No air holes in spacer plate. A 1/4" aluminum adaptor plate may be used to adapt the old 2 barrel spacer to the new 4 barrel intake. Water crossover cooling lines may be used on the intake. CARBURETION: One stock #4412-500 C.F.M. old style, metering block numbers 5924, 10570 & 5925 Holley factory produced 2 barrel carb. The only changes allowed are jets, power valve, removal of choke parts and filling choke rod hole. Two throttle return springs and stop are mandatory. Must have air cleaner. The Track may exchange carburetors at any time. EXHAUST: Corvette manifolds or down draft headers are allowed. Cross over headers are allowed but can not be stepped, thus in this case header tubing must be of same size tubing from header flange to collector. Only a 3" or 3 ˝" collector is allowed. No 180 degree headers. No ceramic coated headers, inside or out. Exhaust must exit outside of body and under 18 inches high. Exhaust must extend rearward and must be turned down or outward. Mufflers are mandatory. Mufflers to be used are Magnaflow #11219. 22. ENGINE TEAR-DOWN: The track has the right at any time to tear down an engine. Only a competing driver of the Modified division of that night has the right to fill out a protest form to have an engine torn down for the sum of $100.00. The driver putting up the $100.00 must remain at the track until the tear down has been completed. If engine is found illegal $50.00 will be returned to the person who made the protest, and the track management will assess the penalties. If the engine is found legal, $50.00 will go to the driver being protested. Cash must be presented to the track management within 10 minutes of the end of the Feature. A valve lift check is not considered to be a tear down. Penalties may include confiscation of illegal parts and a loss of all points and money won that event. Any competing driver may request a valve check for the sum of $40.00. $20.00 to car and $20.00 to track. If found illegal $20.00 will be returned to protesting driver. 23. REAR END: No wide 5. Floaters are allowed. Only steel mini spools or welded spiders are allowed. Aluminum hubs are allowed. No quick change rear ends. Lower and upper arms must not exceed 30 inches centre to centre on mounting holes. No spring loaded arms allowed. No cambered rear ends. Gun drilled axles are allowed. Maximum final Gear Ratio of 501. 24. WHEELS: Must use racing rims. Maximum width 8 inches. No wide 5 wheels. 25. An approved racing WINDOW NET is mandatory. 26. WINDSHIELD: Lexan windshield in front of driver compulsory. It must be able to deflect any debris or oil that might enter the driver’s compartment from the front. 27. FIRE WALLS:
All fire walls and floor in driver’s area must be minimum 22 gauge
steel. (Includes front, back and right side floor
to tunnel height.) 28. One way track radios are allowed. 29. TIRES: Track Specified 8" slick. One tire a night rule will be in effect. 30. NOTE: The interpretation of rules will be solely up to the judgement of the officials in charge and officials decision will be final. Any part of car not specifically covered must remain stock. Stock parts are those found in Model/Year O.E.M. parts book. 31. ANY RULES OMITTED SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE TRACK OFFICIALS AND THEIR DECISION ON SAME WILL BE FINAL. 32. World Product or Dart Heads may be allowed in 2007. NOTE IF IT DOES NOT SAY THAT YOU CAN, CHANCES ARE YOU CAN NOT, SO CHECK WITH TECH BEFORE YOU DO SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT SURE OF. DISCLAIMER VARIATIONS TO THESE RULES MAY BE ALLOWED FOR “VISITING” RACERS AT THE TRACK’S DISCRETION.
