what is RAD?

Racing Against Drugs is a community-based drug and alcohol awareness program developed by the RCMP, and presented in Clarington since 1999 by a committee comprised of community agencies, businesses and community members.

Over the course of 3 days all grade five students in the Municipality of Clarington are delivered an enthusiastic and engaging program - one which incorprates the excitement of auto racing, a sport with no tolerance for substance abuse.

Drug awareness, safety issues and healthy alternative choices are promoted to the students through various interactive "pitstops".

Racing Against Drugs is designed to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles and to allow children the opportunity to experience the excitement of racing by competing on a professionally built slot car track.

This unique concept of learning helps to provide the youth with a very meaningful and memorable experience.

Durham Region is fortunate to have two Racing Against Drugs programs to meet the needs of all Durham Region students. Racing Against Drugs-Durham is delivered to grade 5 students in Durham Region schools west of Clarington.
