MBNA CUP LITES DEBUT AT MOSPORT SPEEDWAY

Bowmanville, ON - July 29, 1999: You'll have to do a double take at Mosport Speedway Saturday July 31st. The MBNA Cup Lites make their anticipated debut on the 1/2 mile paved oval this Saturday during Magic 94.9 FM night.

The double take comes from the similarities in paint schemes to some of the NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch Grand National cars. The MBNA Cup Lites are 3/4 scale Winston Cup style stock cars. Powered by 700cc 3 cylinder Yamaha engines producing 135 horsepower, these cousins to the "Cup" cars have a power to weight ratio that gives the drivers the feel of being on a Super Speedway in a Winston Cup car.

Don't tell these drivers size matters! At 925 lbs. an MBNA Cup Lites car measures just 40" from ground to roof. Their width and length measure 62" and 150" respectfully. With the option of a Chevy Monte Carlo or Ford Taurus body, these 3/4 scale rockets will likely turn speeds in excess of 90 mph along Mosport Speedway's 800 foot front and back straight.

Adding to the anticipation of the MBNA Cup Lites is the announcement of three "Guest" drivers this Saturday. Joining series regulars will be O.S.C.A.A.R. Super Late Model driver Dave Taylor of Oakwood, ON; Motorola Cup and CART PPG pace car driver Terry MacDonald-Cadieux from Oshawa, ON; and rookie go-kart racer Elisa Chilvers from nearby Courtice, ON.

Mosport Speedway regular classes racing the evening will be the Thunder Cars, Open Wheel Modifieds and Late Models. The gates open at 5:30 PM with qualifying races beginning at 6:30 PM. Adult admission is only $12.00 per adult with Children 12 and under admitted free. For further information you can contact the Mosport office at (905) 983-9141 or go online at www.mosport.com.
