Bowmanville,
ON - February 20, 2004: Too soon to think of spring and summer?
Not when it's the Victoria Day Weekend, May 21, 22 & 23, 2004 at Mosport
International Raceway!
Another action packed weekend awaits fans with nine series scheduled
to hold championship rounds on the famous 4KM (2.5 mile) roadcourse.
The big horsepower cars of the weekend will be the American GT Challenge
series machines. Comprised of GT1 style 'muscle cars', the grid will
likely see some former Trans-Am names. Remember when. The Honda/Michelin
Series thrilled with door to door, races around the 10 turn Mosport
circuit? We anticipate remembering again as Honda and Michelin resurrect
the entertaining and competitive spec civic series. Another exciting
return to Mosport is that of the FF2000 ZETEC Championship. Formula
2000 racing is the launching pad for many careers. The Mazdaspeed Miata
Cup is new to Mosport but has been wowing folks at SCCA events for some
time. Another new series to experience Mosport will be the Formula SCCA
Open Wheel series. Cup Lites cars have raced the Victoria Day Weekend
before and these scaled down stockcars return to test their roadracing
skills. Canada's national open wheel series returns, The Canadian Formula
Ford Series presented by Derringer. These F1600 drivers will no doubt
be trying to impress some FF2000 ZETEC teams. One of the most equal
and competitive open series within the CASC ranks is the ISSECO/KUMHO
FV1200 Championship. They're back again too. Now in its sophomore year,
the Ontario Touring Car Championship will provide a strong and diverse
grid of cars for their endurance race this weekend.
Another new element for this year is Tuner Paradise. Taking place within
the infield will be an exciting new show for the tuner enthusiasts.
P.A.C.E.R. (Police and Community Educating Racers) are producing this
show in partnership with Mosport.
"Providing new series and returning series should make for a great Victoria
Day Weekend" Myles Brandt, President & General Manager, Mosport International
Raceway expounds. "The American GT Challenge still offers the deep pounding
sensation of the muscle cars. The anticipated return of The Honda/Michelin
Series has everyone talking. And the balance of open and closed wheel
racing throughout the weekend will be what fans have come to appreciate
over the years on the Victoria Day Weekend."
Commenting on Tuner Paradise, Myles Brandt notes the huge following
the tuner sport has and the opportunity for motorsports and sponsors
to increase exposure by combining hard core racing on the track with
a Tuner show off-track.
In addition to the roadcourse events, weekend Supertickets also gain
access to the half-mile speedway Saturday evening. PartSource presents
MR.SUB Saturday Night Racing starting at 6:30 PM. There's even something
to do Sunday night as the Municipality of Clarington hosts their annual
Backyard Festival at the speedway. With activities and entertainment
for all ages, the night concludes with an awesome Victoria Day fireworks
show.
So as you can see, the weekend is ideal for camping. With so much happening,
it's a great way to kick-off the camping season with family and friends.
