American Le Mans Series - GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport Schedule

Bowmanville, ON – July 5, 2001: The event schedule for the GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport, August 17, 18 & 19, 2001 is posted on Mosport's website and attached with this release. Included on the schedule are pre-event festivities at Nathan Phillips Square, August 13th and a drivers autograph session, August 15th at Haugen's Chicken & Ribs Barbecue 'Cruise Night'.

The American Le Mans Series is regarded as the pinnacle in sports car racing. Internationally recognized, the American Le Mans Series - GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport will again be broadcast live on NBC, August 19th. Last years race drew an impressive overnight rating of 1.5 and a 4 share in Nielsen ratings. August 26th will be the date for Eurosport's broadcast of the race. The American Le Mans Series Radio Web will broadcast qualifying and the race live to the Internet. Over 1.75 million "hits" were received during the 2000 Mosport race.

Further proving the strength, stature and entertainment value of the American Le Mans Series was the number of spectators for the three-day Mosport event. Over 52,000 spectators took in the 2000 Grand Prix at Mosport weekend. "Affordability to families is key to the weekend success". Suggests Mosport Executive Raceway Director, Myles Brandt. "We are able to put together a fabulous three-day event for only $45.00 (advance sale until August 15th) per weekend Superticket. This includes parking, complete grounds admission, paddock pass and our Speedy Auto Service Saturday Night Stock Car Racing. Children 12 & under are admitted free."

Practice and Qualifying commences Friday August 17th. In addition to the ALMS competitors, there will be championship rounds for Star Mazda, Canadian Formula Ford Series, Panoz GT Pro Series, Canadian ChampCar Lights and Canada G.T. Challenge Cup. Two races will run Saturday August 18th (Star Mazda & Formula Fords) while the other series continue with practice and/or qualifying rounds. On Sunday ALMS cars will receive a half-hour warm up at 9:00 AM. After that it's all racing with the American Le Mans Series - GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport starting at 1:00 PM.

Pre-event festivities include a visit to Nathan Phillips Square on Monday August 13th. Located in the heart of Toronto's business district, Nathan Phillips Square is one of Toronto's great icons. Kick-off festivities begin at 12:00 PM lasting until 2:00 PM. Wednesday evening (August 15th) several cars and drivers will be on hand for Haugen's Chicken & Ribs Barbecue weekly 'Cruise Night'. Located in Manchester, ON on Highway 12 (at 7a), the night begins at 6:00 PM running through to dusk, Haugen's 'Cruise Night' has been dubbed the largest weekly car cruise in North America.

The GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport will take place August 17-19, 2001. International Sports Car racing returns with marque such as Audi, BMW, Panoz, Corvette and Porsche.
