CASCAR NATIONAL TITLE CHASE HEADS TO MOSPORT |
|
| Bowmanville, ON August 22, 2000:
Canadas top stock car teams prepare for this weekend's Mosport 250 Presented by
UAP/NAPA Auto Parts. Staged on the historic 4-km (2.459 mile) Mosport roadcourse, round
three of the CASCAR Castrol Super Series National Championship will run Sunday August 27th
at 2:00 PM. Peter Gibbons (Canadian Tire Chevrolet), the defending race winner, holds only a four point advantage, 975 to 971, over Don Thomson Jr. (Home Hardware Chevrolet). Given the points structure within the Super Series these two are not alone in the quest for the cup. Western Series standouts Kevin Dowler (Ford Quality Care Ford) and Carl Harr (GM Goodwrench Chevrolet) will be doing their part to see that the National Championship Trophy heads west this year. DJ Kennington (Castrol Canada Dodge), a podium finisher at last years Mosport roadcourse event, hopes to use the experience from 1999 to move up from his 5th place in National standings. CASCAR teams and drivers have made huge strides forward in their roadcourse programs. Although the competition is getting tougher, Robin Buck should never be discounted from the top step of the podium. Hes missed it by one the past two years, but the driver of the UAP/NAPA Pontiac knows Mosport better than any of his competitors. Billed as "The Extreme Stock Car Weekend" Race fans will have their fill of racing. Three days on the roadcourse with CASCAR plus championship rounds for the Canadian Formula Ford Championship, ChampCar Lights, Canada G.T. Challenge Cup and ISSECO Kumho F1200 series. In addition, the weekend ticket includes Mosports weekly Fraser Ford Saturday Night Racing at the ½ mile oval. UAP/NAPA presents The Mosport 250 at Mosport International Raceway August 25, 26, 27, 2000. The gates open at 7:00 AM Friday, with testing all day and CASCARs first qualifying session. Practice and qualifying makes up Saturdays roadcourse schedule. Fraser Ford Saturday Night racing begins at 6:30 PM with qualifying heat races. The first of two races for the Canadian ChampCar Lights opens Sundays schedule at 9:00 AM. A full CASCAR driver autograph session will commence at 12 noon on the mock grid (base of Castrol Tower) with The UAP/NAPA-Mosport 250 green flag at 2:00 PM. A weekend Super Ticket, including all the above, is only $40.00 at the track (gates 2 or 6). For further information call 1-800-866-1072 or visit or website at www.mosport.com. |
