Bowmanville, ON October 22, 1999: Construction teams have been working feverishly along side Mosports crew to complete the vast amount of renovations to the 2.459 mile circuit. Already completed this past June was the pit extension. The original pit lane is scheduled for demolition within days in anticipation of mirroring the new extension right back to the Castrol Tower. Other significant work includes driver site lines improvements through corners 4 and 9. Below is a corner by corner synopsis of the work ongoing.
Start/Finish Straight
Corner One
Corner Two
Corner Three
Corner Four
Corner Five
Andretti Straight
Corner Eight
Corner Nine
Corner Ten
Pit Lane
All above mentioned work is being implemented with thought toward anticipated future widening and paving of the circuit.
Although aimed at improved driver safety the ongoing renovations will no doubt provide for even better racing and new spectator vantage areas. Spectators at Moss Corner (corner five) will enjoy a vastly improved view. From the hillside of corner five it is now possible to see the cars enter corner four and continue following them through five all the way till they crest the Andretti Straight at corner six. Perhaps spectators will enjoy a new vantage point at corner four. From atop the hill, drivers left, it is now feasible to see the action out of corner three and follow it through corner five. Site lines will likely improve for those enjoying the weekend from the family camping area outside corner eight. With corner nine no longer a "blind corner" spectators should see a bit more of the action from the family camping area. Conversely, those watching from the infield of corner nine will see the cars approach from corner eight. Hospitality areas along the start/finish straight (opposite pit lane) have been increased and leveled. Valleys have been filled and grass seed planted in anticipation of an active 2000 season.
Year 2000 marks the 40th season of racing at Mosport. Our schedule will be announced later this fall, but you can expect a return of major events from the 99 season. Confirmed dates are the Trans-Am Victoria Day Weekend and the American Le Mans Series July 9, 2000. Keep checking mosport.com for news. The mosport website will also see some renovations in the near future, including the addition of Mosport merchandise available on-line and photos of track work.
