NEW TRACK GETS A NAME
Bowmanville, ON December 7, 1999: Since the announcement this past March of the Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academies move to Mosport, work began on a new 1.5 mile circuit. Designed by Academy owners Charlie and Brett Goodman in collaboration with Mosport, this fantastic new facility has been void of any official name until now.
To be known as the Mosport Driver Development Center, the Bridgestone Racing Academy will continue to provide superior instruction at a location rich in Canadian Motorsports history. Whether students are aspiring racers or simply desire learning valuable driving skills, the Mosport Driver Development Centers multitude of configurations will accommodate all. Automotive manufacturers and after-market suppliers will also benefit from the addition of this circuit to Mosports testing facilities.
Paving of the circuit is complete. With 24 configurations available, this bi-directional track has four, 16 elevation changes. Crews continue building the 10,000-sqaure-foot Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy administrative office. The entire operation will be fully functional in plenty of time for the 2000 season. An aerial view of the Mosport Driver Development Center is available in the Photo library of the Mosport website www.mosport.com.
Year 2000 marks the 40th season of racing at Mosport. Derived from the contraction of words "motor" and "sport" (pronounced moe-sport not moss-port), it seems only fitting that Canadas premier road course, since the Players 200 June 3, 1961, welcomes the premiere open-wheel training facility, The Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy, to develop talent for the next forty years and beyond.
